I Begin Again. Again.

A Farewell to ArmsHemingway’s third novel, A Farewell to Arms, published in 1929, awaits my reading.

Aside from the fact that I’ve heard this and that (it’s about a war and it was made into a movie, twice – once, in 1932, starring Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes, and once, in 1957, starring Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones), I do not know what the novel is about. As with every Hemingway novel I plan to read during my 70 Days, I do not intend to “bone-up” on the book’s contents. No Cliff Notes for me. No Wiki entries. No aficionado reviews in blogs.

Nope. None of that rot for this young fellow.

I want my Hemingway straight from the tap – unfiltered by the thoughts of others.

I’ll draw my own conclusions, investigate my own interests, and evaluate the writing on my own.

Just me, a glass of absinthe, and the lake spread out before me.

The only way to read Hemingway.
